Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka Circuit: History and Thrilling Motorsport Moments
Suzuka Circuit, located in Suzuka, Mie Prefecture, Japan, is one of the most famous and exciting motorsport venues in the world. This 5.807km long circuit hosts the Formula One Japanese Grand Prix and is known for its unique figure-eight configuration, where the tracks intersect via an overpass.
Designed by Dutch architect John Hugenholtz as a test track for Honda, Suzuka opened its doors in 1962. Since then, it has become an integral part of the Formula One World Championship since 1987. Despite the temporary relocation of the Japanese Grand Prix to Fuji Speedway in 2007 and 2008, races have been held at the legendary Suzuka since 2009.
The circuit is famous for its high-speed sections and challenging corners. Among them are the S-turns, which require precision and rhythm, the challenging right-hander Degner, and the high-speed left-hander 130R, which tests the cars' aerodynamic stability. The narrow chicane Casio Triangle is often a spot for overtaking before the main straight.
